" . - i Ml.ooU nit eons. V F5. Military Cocrtesy. It seems hardly creditable to us, who believe everything to be fair in war, that such half savages as the Maoris, of New Zealand, should observe courtesies to ward their enemies which puts U3 to the blush. While they were at war with the English they invariably sent a notice when they were going to make an attack, as if they were coming on a friendly visit, and desired things to be ready for them. Ttey thought it very strange that the English did not give them similar notice. Sometimes two villages would get np n war with each other, and after fighting like tigers all day they would come oil of their little torts toward evening and talk over the day!s sport in the most friendly way. The next morning tney would begin again, to keep it up during the daytime and meet in the evening as before, in a sort of social reunion. An old missionary tells how, in one of these little wars, the occupants ot a fort sent word to their assailants that they were short of provisions, and the attack ing party immediately sent in a fresh supply. One Sunday he held divine ser vice on a spot between two hostile fort, and the warriors from each fort came out to attend, and Monday morning they went to fighting again as lively is ever. Proposed An Amendment. After Bobby's father had repeated the usual prayer the other day, Bobby asked: 'I say, vi, what makes you pray for daily bread all the time?" "Ehf "Ain't it about time to pray for some early vegetables?" IF A BODY MEET A BODY the rccult is a collision, whether "coming thro' the rye,", or not. Life is full of collis ions. We are constantly colliding with some body or something. If tt isn t with our neighbors it is with some dread diseases that - knocita us on tne trace ana pcrnaps cus- anies us ror lire, women especially it seems, have to bear the brunt of more collisions and afflictions than mankind.
